I'm passing along the news I received from Students For A Free Tibet (SFT):
We're excited to let you know that the Dalai Lama will give a public address on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, October 17, 2007.
At 1:00pm, the Dalai Lama will be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal by the President of the United States, the Speaker of the House, and Congressional leadership in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. This historic event will be broadcast live onto the West Lawn of the Capitol for public viewing. At 2:20pm, Richard Gere will make a few remarks, and at 2:30pm, Speaker Pelosi will escort the Dalai Lama from the Rotunda to the West Lawn, where he will give a free public address.
If you live in the United States or are able to make the journey, please join us for this momentous occasion and help show your support for Tibet. Thousands of Tibetans from around the world will be in attendance!
It will be an all day event with Tibetan cultural performances starting at 11am. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch, blanket or folding chairs. For more information, please contact kala@studentsforafreetibet.org or visit: www.dalailamadc.org.
We look forward to seeing many of you in DC for this auspicious occasion.
Sincerely,
Lhadon, Tendor, Heather, Kala, Kate and the rest of the SFT HQ crew
